In fact, specializing to some degree limit the range of matters they handle. More and more lawyers want to be recognized as having special knowledge and experience in particular field of life by acquiring Certificates. Certified lawyers have been recognized by independent professional certifying organizations as those having an advanced level of skills. Besides, they provide substantial involvement in established legal specialty areas.

Lawyers should be able to provide enough argument for certifying organizations that his recognition as a certified specialist is meaningful and reliable, that is demonstration of their special training, experience and knowledge.

The number of specialty certification lawyer programs is increasing in quantity and variety. In 1993, the American Bar Association (ABA) confirmed a set of voluntary national standards and a set of procedures to accredit specialty certification programs. These standards were worked out to establish reasonable and valid criteria to accredit programs that grant specialty certification to qualified lawyers and to supply state authorities with a ground for approving programs which need recognition in their jurisdictions.  

ABA accreditation signifies that lawyer have met all Standards for Accreditation of Specialty Certification Programs.  

If law organization wants to obtain ABA accreditation for a certain program, it must show:
- It is conformed to the identification of lawyers who perform at advanced level of skills and expertise and that it is concentrated on development and improvement of the professional competence of lawyers.
- Every specialty area in which it is possible to be certified is an area of the law where many lawyers regularly practice and is described in terms which are familiar and understandable to the lawyer and his probable client.    
- It has enough funds to implement its certification program continually and that the program administrator has the ability to direct and fulfill such programs.
- The company offers procedures for certifying which are easily to apply and are understandable. Besides, these procedures must not discriminate against any other lawyer’s certification on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age.
