Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) examination is not obligatory credential for the medical billing profession. This certificate is granted by the certifying Board of the American Medical Billing Association. CMRS credential is voluntary, that’s why federal government does not require from medical billers to be certified for practicing medical billing. Testing is provided on a national level.

Certification process recognizes the proficiency of an AMBA member that has met their high standards of competency through certification examinations.

CMRS knows how to assist manage the claims paying process starting from service rendering by a health care provider and until the bill is paid. The CMRS should be aware of medical terminology, insurance claims and billing, fraud and abuse, appeals and denies, information and web technology, reimbursement and many other feature of this field. 

Certification confirms knowledge and credibility to the biller, to the potential health care provider and employer. It shows your devotion and conscientiousness in providing the service of the highest quality in Claims Management and Medical Billing in other words in a complex industry that demands specialized training. Besides, certification provides confirmation of competency and assurance of continued education.     

The CMRS exam is divided into 16 sections (Anatomy and Physiology, Information Technology, Medical Terminology, Insurance, Insurance Carriers, Acronyms, Compliance, Managed Care, Fraud and Abuse, General, Case Study, Clearinghouses, CMS 1500, CPT-4 Coding, ICD-9-CM Coding and Web and Information Technology) and requires more than 700 answers with 85% accuracy rate in order to pass and earn the CMRS or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist designation.

You can take CMRS exam only online. You will have 45 days access to finish the exam. It is possible to review each section before submission. Your final score will be available immediately after your completion the exam. In case you succeed at the exam you will get your Certificate by main in 3-5 business days.    
  
It is allowed to re-take the CMRS exam 6 times, after a 30 day waiting period (but not more than 60 days) for free.
